17 promising leaders graduated from intensive training

The Youth Leadership Training Programme, initiated by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Ethiopia in 2009, concluded its capacity building and training programme 2016 on important developments in regional, continental and international politics. The Youth Leadership Training Programme started in April 2016 and was completed in March 2017 after a series of five intakes.

After the introduction to analytical frameworks of international relations, the participants successfully developed scenarios for the future foreign policy of Ethiopia and practical approaches on urgent political challenges such as Chinese politics in Africa and the possible membership of Ethiopia in the World Trade Organization or security policy in the Horn of Africa. Lively discussions on contemporary global and regional issues and the possible role of the next generation of young Ethiopian leaders marked the end of the training programme.

During the graduation ceremony, various trainers and alumni honored the graduates. In his speech, Constantin Grund, Resident Representative of the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, reminded the graduates of their responsibilities as leaders in their direct working environment and the importance of a functioning network of like-minded activists to shape the country future for the better.
