Only three months into office, the reforms and initiatives introduced by the new Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed are widely appreciated at home and abroad. As many certainties of governance practice during the last 27 years are currently changing, some observers argue that this is more than a fresh start for Ethiopia.

During more than two decades, the political leadership referred to the historic process of an “Ethiopian Democracy in the making”, based on a clear party-oriented institutional setup. Now, one might wonder how the governance structures are affected by the new style of leadership and how the democratic development in Ethiopia will continue.

Given ongoing dynamics, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) cordially invites you to a conference on “Beyond Expectations: Consolidating Democracy in Ethiopia”, that takes place on July 26th, 2018 (GC).

The event will bring together distinguished opinion makers, politicians from diverse backgrounds, researchers, advocates as well as the young and the experienced to shed light on important governance issues in Ethiopia. We are looking forward to seeing you there. Please find the conference program here:
